Budget Hotel, right location help please

Hi,

During our 2 week flydrive holiday in California, we intend to spend 1 night in Palm Springs mid September.

Could somebody please advice on which location we should be looking to book a hotel, to be walking distance to bars, clubs (if any) and restaurants. We will obviously have a car, but would want to be able to drink in the evening, rather than driving or paying out for taxi's.

Any recommendations for budget hotels in a convenient, safe location would be greatly appreciated. Ideally, wouldn't want to spend more than $170 on the one night-less iff possible.

Thanks K.

If you want to be within walking distance of downtown PS this is a list of smaller properties.

www.smallhotelsofpalmsprings.com

Also look a the Hyatt, Hard Rock..

Down in Rancho Mirage, near the River shopping/entertainment district are hotels like Rancho las Palmas, Hilton Garden..

In Palm Desert there is El Paseo Street with a few hotels nearby.

Since you are only there one night, I would suggest staying near downtown PS. September is still off season, so hotel rates should be reasonable.

Hotel rates should be very low, so look at places like Colony Palms (which you can find on TabletHotels.com for less than your budget), Hard Rock (can't get any closer to downtown, but the pool is tiny), Hyatt, Riviera, even Renaissance (they have a free shuttle that takes you to and from downtown).

Hi, check out The Chase Hotel. Located just a block from Palm Canyon Dr. You are in the center of the shops and restaurants.

Thank you for all your replies.

I have been looking at the Riviera Resort, The Saguaro and the Hyatt- which of these would you say is the closest, most convenient to the down town?

It may sound silly, but looking at google maps, I am still stupidly struggling to work out which area counts as the Downtown?

Thanks, K.

The core of downtown for tourists who want to stroll, shop, eat and drink is North Palm Canyon between Baristo and Amado. Certainly there is much much more beyond those streets but that should give you an idea of where you will likely want to be. Palm Springs is not known for its nightlife (and there's even less action in September) but you'll likely end up at Las Casuela's (margaritas and live music) or the Village Pub (also live music). You might also find day time activity at Ace Hotel (south of town) or the new Hacienda (just south of downtown).

Like ReddPupp said. That area is the walkable part of Palm Springs. Outside of the "downtown" core you need a car to get around to restaurants and bars. I really like the Orbit In or its sister property the Hideaway, which are on the same street as the Chase mentioned above and well within your budget in September.

Hyatt is smack in the middle of downtown. Riviera is just a little off, but walking distance. Saguaro is further out - but still convenient.
