Nightlife in Palm Springs

Is there an active nightlife in early January in Palm Springs? My husband and I are traveling there for 5 days and enjoy trying new restaurants and bars but I have heard that during the slower seasons most bars close between 10 and 11 pm. Is January the same? Also, what daytime activities are there besides golf? We've never been to Palm Springs but have heard it is an excellent relaxation getaway! Thank you!

Palm Springs is a fairly small city and not that much of a nightlife destination. A lot of people just laze around the pool during the day, though there is decent shopping along El Paseo in Palm Desert (and the outlet malls in Cabazon). Also, Joshua Tree National Park is close for desert hiking. You might want to also ride the tram to the top of the mountation. Though if you are coming from MN you may not want to see more snow.

There are several fairly large casinos for gambling and concerts.

The nightclubs for younger people are Red 74 on El Paseo in Palm Desert and the Key Club at Casino Morongo in Cabazon.

Bars won't close at 11 pm in the winter January to April is the high season for the desert.

We have just returned from Palm Springs and can back what the other post has stated, some of the restaurants start to close about eleven as they are starting to get less busy by that time but some of the bars are still going strong at 2-3 o'clock, try the village pub they have live groups an upstairs games room and whilst we were there had a very good happy hour with half price drinks up until 9, slightly higher up the road is the Hair of the Dog which is modelled on an English pub, around this area you will find quite a few little bars that stay open late, although you would not say the place is rocking it is still an enjoyable place to stay for relaxation and rest.

Try the peppertree inn for a hotel to stay....first class and reasonable

January is HIGH season, nothing will be closing at 11pm.

If you are in town Jan 4-16th the PS International Film Festival is on and the town will be packed.

The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic starts January 14th.

You can always juts go downtown PS and walk, window shop , people watch and eat in one of the many outdoor restaurants.

I don't know much of anything about nightlife in palm springs in terms of bars or pubs, cause thats not my thing. but! definitly WAAAAYYY more to do in palm springs during the daytime besides golf!! first and foremost i would say it is an excellent excellent hiking destination. the scenery is unbelieveable and there is a wide wide range in terms of difficulty. if this is something that interests you let me know and i'll post more details in terms of different locations/trails, etc.

someone mentioned the tram and joshua tree national park, both excellent attractions.

there is the living desert, which is a combination zoo/desert plants garden. moorten's botanical gardens are also really wonderful if you are interested in cacti.

there is the relatively new art museum downtown (it used to be a regular museum but has recently become purely an art museum)

the college of the desert fleamarket on sundays.

if shopping interests you there are wonderful unique and quaint shops downtown on palm canyon drive, don't miss that!

there is an air musem if that sort of thing interests you.

in the evening, be sure to check out the street fair on thursday nights with craft and food vendors and live entertainment.
