Stanford Campus - best 3 or 4 things to see?

My husband and I are headed to Stanford for a football game this fall. We'll have a day in Palo Alto (first time there). I'm planning to see the Rodin sculpture garden and the Memorial church. Of course we'll be seeing the new stadium too. It looks like Hoover tower will be closed. Any other favorite sights?

After looking at the Rodin sculptures outside, be sure to go into the Cantor Arts Center (http://museum.stanford.edu). It has some fabulous ethnic art and artifacts and eclectic special exhibits as well. The architectural detail of the building itself is magnificent. We had lunch out on the patio of the Cool Cafe which overlooks the sculpture garden and had good gourmet deli-type items. Inside the Cantor you can pick up a brochure/map that shows you all the incredible sculptures that are spread out all over the campus. Would make a great walking tour--something we plan to do next time.

Make sure you enter campus from Palm Drive off of El Camino Real. It's a beautiful way to come into Stanford, with the stately palms lining the roadway, leading you directly to the Main Quad. Even if you do nothing else but drive up there, go around the oval and drive back toward the Cantor, you should at least make the drive. Or you can walk around the Main Quad and then repair to the Cantor.

1) Memorial Church and the Quad

2) Take the tour up to the top of Hoover Tower for a great overall view of the Stanford campus. Unless as you mention, its closed.

3) Rodin Sculpture Garden - its right in front of the Cantor Art Musuem which is worth walking through.

4) At the Cantor Art Museum, ask for directions to the cactus garden. There is a parking lot and its about a 5 minute walk from there. Rather surprisingly good cactus garden....and almost a "secret" garden unless one knows its there.

5) Stop by the Book Store.
