Travel from LAX to Pasadena

Are there options other than a taxi to get from LAX to the Langham Huntington in Pasadena? I'm not sure if the shuttle buses go near.

If you are on a domestic flight, try to fly to Bob Hope / Burbank Airport (airport code BUR) instead of LAX. Its much closer. However, if you have to fly into LAX (international flight or too late to change flight) then....

A taxi from LAX would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $90-100 dollars, depending on the exact route used, traffic conditions at that time, etc.

You can try taking a shared van shuttle. www.primetimeshuttle.com or www.supershuttle.com It will be around $28 for the first passenger and about $10 for each additional passenger. Disadvantage is that the shared van can circle the airport a few times to try and fill the van, and can detour along the way to pick up or drop off other passengers. But if you only have a few people its much cheaper than a taxi, and the cost is fixed, regardless of traffic or route used, unlike a taxi.

Another option would be to take the FlyAway bus from LAX to Union Station in downtown LA ($7 per person), and from Union Station take the Gold Line Light Rail train towards Sierra Madre ($1.50 per person). Exit at the Fillmore station. From there, you could walk to the hotel (about 1 3/4 miles) or take a short taxi ride. The FlyAway runs every 30 minutes most of the day and takes between 30 and 45 minutes to Union Station, usually. The Gold Line runs every 12 minutes and the Fillmore station is about 20 minutes away.

In addition to the above, I would check with the hotel directly for advice.

One thing though-- the Fillmore station is really NOT walking distance to the Langham. Taxis will NOT just be waiting at the Fillmore station, which is a small light rail station. And the Langham itself is in a lovely residential area, but not really walking distance to anything. The hotel can tell you if there are easy bus connections on Oak Knoll, where the hotel is located; if not, consider renting a car or changing hotels.

Yet another option would be the Flyaway bus from LAX (making sure to get on the Flyaway marked Union Station), and then a cab from Union Station, as Union Station is MUCH closer to the Langham than LAX is.

BTW, while staying at the Langham, take a walk around the neighborhood, which includes many beautiful homes from the early 20th century, including a gorgeous house by Greene and Greene (famous local architects) called the Blacker House. Ask the concierge where to find it ( only a block or two away).

Also, on the grounds of the hotel is a lovely old covered bridge; it contains old paintings of California landscapes: the paintings are much deteriorated with time and weather, but still charming.
