Help

I am visiting Santa Ana Ca. from Texas and want to go to the UCLA, Texas Longhorn game on Saturday the 17th of September. What would be the best way to go, mass transit or driving as I will be going alone.

Thanks,

Driving to a game at the Rose Bowl is a disaster. Let's try public transportation. This is a possible routing for you via Metrolink:

http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_start.php?place0=santa+ana%2C+ca&place1=pasadena&timecrit0=AR&day0=SAT&hour0=11&min0=00&ampm0=A&fare=RG&evaluateButton=+Plan+My+Trip

In case that link doesn't work just go to the Metrolink website and punch in some times: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/

The route will take you from the Santa Ana Station at 1000 East Santa Ana Boulevard to Memorial Park Station in Pasadena. Then you can walk west a block to the big parking lot at Parsons Engineering, where you can catch a shuttle to the Rose Bowl.

Info about the shuttle is here, along with parking information, in case you decide to go that route:

rosebowlstadium.com/RoseBowl_shuttle-dropoff…

The trip I "picked" begins at 8:35 AM and will be at the station in Pasadena around 10:54 AM. You might want to think about getting there earlier -- the Texas Alumni Association is having a big tailgate party:

Have fun!

Another option would be to drive to Union (train) Station in downtown L.A., park there and take the gold line to Pasadena, following the above instructions. This would speed things up a little as you wouldn't have to transfer to the train station in Santa Ana by public transit or pay for parking there -- and going to the train station might be out of your way. In addition, you'd avoid having to wait for a train which can run infrequently.

The gold line metro rail from Union Station runs frequently so no matter when you reach Union Station, you'll be on your way to Pasadena in no time.
