Day Trip Suggestions

My husband and I will be staying in Pismo Beach for two nights at the end of the month. Anyone have suggestions for unusual of different side/day trips? We'll be going to San Lois Obispo and checking out Montery and Carmel, so anything else we should explore?

Kibblesmom always gives such good suggestions - hardly anything to add, but I would highly recommend a morning or afternoon to see Montana de Oro State Park. It is awe inspiring with photos opps around ever bend. Almost to the end iof the road is an opening where you can park on a rock beach and walk in the tide pools. Hiking in Montana de Oro is famous, even easy hikes around the mesa area over looking this same rock beach. In addition, there is an historic house here with a small museum and superb Docents to tell you all about the area and critters to look for. Sometimes they are even in historical garb and acting out parts of those that lived in the house. This is one of those places only those in the know tell you about and you will talk about forever.

Sheri - If you have not gone wine tasting in this area and you like wine, please do not miss it. There are two major areas - one in Paso Robles/Templeton area and it's huge - maybe 150 wineries each with unique wines and some are just plan fun to go to like Tobin James where you could spend an afternnoon. Huge reds and famous for Zins in this area. And there is another area in San Luis Obispo with more dry - white types of wines although both have a little of everything.
