Pismo Lighthouse Suites vs. Sandcastle Inn?

We are planning a trip to Pismo Beach for 4 nights. Pismo Lighthouse Suites has an oceanfront room available and so does Sandcastle Inn. Both have great reviews! Has anyone stayed at both? Which one should we go to? Thanks!

Hi! The advantage of Sandcastle is that it is right on the beach. :).

How many of you are there?

As mentioned, Sandcastle Inn is right on the beach. It's also within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the pier and the boardwalk.

Pismo Lighthouse Suites sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean. It's a bit of a distance from the beach, pier, downtown shops and restaurants. However, if there are more than 2 of you visiting, you might enjoy the large floor plan and the 2 bathrooms each room offers.

We just stayed at Pismo Lighthouse Suites last week, and the other hotel we were considering is the Sandcastle.

Lighthouse Suites are huge, basically two connected rooms with 2 baths, as Kibbles said a great advantage if you're more than a couple. It's a very family friendly place, I wouldn't necessarily consider it for a romantic getaway. Oceanfront unit has nice view, you walk across some other properties along the cliff and walk down ~90 steps to the beach (stairs technically closed after sunset). If you wanted dinner in town you would need to drive (less than 5 minutes).

The worst thing about our stay is that there is NO soundproofing between floors. We could hear every step made by the guests above us. And they seemed to be walking normally, not stomping around, and it still sounded like a heard of elephants. For this reason I would never stay there again unless I was guaranteed a third floor unit.

Did not go into the Sandcastle but saw it from the beach. As mentioned, walking distance to town but the rooms looked normal sized to small. Probably fine for a couple.
