Looking for reunion hotel for Gramma's 80th birthday!

My Gramma lives in Sun City, California and we are looking for a place to get together for her 80th birthday. The time of year is December. Everyone is coming from out of town, so it would be nice to find a reasonable hotel that would double as a good gathering place for the birthday/reunion for about 50+ people including a bunch of kids. Any help would be much appreciated. Any area around Sun City is ideal!!! Or within an hour radius or so. Thanks so much in advance :)

Unfortunatley the area around Sun City is pretty much devoid of nice hotels as far as I know, although you might search in Murrieta where there are some smaller chains, I think. Riverside may be your best bet--the "destination" hotel is the Mission Inn which would certainly be memorable, but its not "reasonable." Temecula would be another area to look--a half hour or so south, a mini-wine area with places that do functions. Good luck!

Thanks! Anything in Riverside that would be reasonable perchance? Decent hotel with nice gathering areas and pools, etc.?

In December, a lovely hotel in the Riverside Area is the Mission Inn, as its so beautifully decorated for the Holidays.

Its fun and lots to do.

There is other lodging close by....

If pricing is a factor for some. With your size party, be sure to check with hotels, if they can give you a group rate.

There is ice skating for the holidays, horse carriage rides, lots of decoration, and the hotel also serves buffet meals (which are more reasonably priced than their sit down meals.)

Here's the link for the hotel

They also have an outdoor Mexican restaurant and that is comfortable enough during the day also with reasonable prices.

Have you thought about the Palm Springs area?

Tons of hotels with nice pools, lots of activities to keep everyone busy. Its pretty close to your 1 hour radius.

Or maybe something like the Pachanga Resort or Pala Resort(both near Temecula, with gambling).

I also think the Palm Springs suggestion is wonderful.

However, since you mention a bunch of kids, I would definitely not do the Pechanga or Pala idea. they are wonderful Indian casinos - but not a lot of kid friendly activities. The rooms at Pechanga are some of the nicest in the area and sometimes you can find great rates.

Maybe the new Embassy Suites Hotel in Temecula? There are some restaurants nearby too, if the hotel's dining doesn't work for you.

It's right down the street from Old Town. I like the idea of arranging something with a winery or a nice venue. In case you have a limited budget, the Pat and Oscar's in Temecula has a big banquet room and sits atop a beautiful large lawn and large duck pond. The banquet room, though, is nothing to write home about. The outside patio is large and much better, but I doubt they would reserve that for a large party. Anyway, it's a good place to suggest that your guests visit with their children.

I love the Mission Inn, but it can be out of the price range of some. Currently there is some construction going on nearby, so I would probably give it a miss. Take her there some other time maybe.

Thanks so much for taking time to offer ideas. I really appreciate it. I believe we've settled on desert hot springs where the hot springs are nice and warm year round so the kids will have a ball in December :) There are some good deals around those parts too. Thanks again!!
