restaurants good for kids, and grown ups that like good food

Hello

We will be staying around the train museum, the Holiday inn, and going to Roseville.

We have small children, like good ice cream, good deli's, take out that is not fast food, seafood, pasta, pizza, buffets (work well with kids).

What is available in our area please?

Near the train museum in old Sac, try Joe's Crab Shack. It's got a great kid's menu and is right on the river. Great place to be when it's hot in old-town.

Ditto Joe's Crab Shack. If a chain burger place is acceptable, maybe Johnny Rockets? I'm assuming you will be eating around Old Sac/Holiday Inn and not Roseville.

Sushi? Zokku's on J between 4th & 5th? Don't know about the kids though maybe they wouldn't like that.

Joe's Crab Shack and Johnny Rockets are among the very worst restaurants in Sacramento in terms of food and ambience. If you like pizza you could try Chicago Fire on J Street.

I really can't think of much that's good for kids that isn't chain-y. Is this what the future holds for me as a parent? :o

Because the OP requested a restaurant "in our area" and "with young children", Joe's Crab Shack and Johnny Rockets was recommended. The ambiance would be for a young family, not a romantic couple or young group, therefore JCS and JR is completely appropriate. Chicago Fire pizza is a great restaurant with great food, but its not in the immediate area (not walking distance), and is very crowded. Not fun waiting with small kids. But hey, if you don't consider the kids, CF is great for food and ambience. :)

I assume he has a car if he's going to Roseville.

The Crab Shack and Johnny Rockets are good for families but have horrible food. A cursory glance of yelp.com tells you as such. If they want to sacrifice good food for being family friendly, then they shouldhit the Crab Shack.
