bus service from San Jose to San Francisco

Is there a bus (or cheaper transit) leaving from San Jose going into downtown San Francisco (wanting to walk around downtown for the day). I would be doing this on a weekday,Thursday, and leaving in the am and returning home at night approx 9:00pm. ?

Thanks for any assistance

Would a train be ok instead ? Caltrain www.caltrain.com takes you between SF and SJ. There are express trains during the rush hour but you can still get back late in the evening on the slower trains

You can get off at the last stop and take MUNI www.sfmuni.com around SF

Yes. There are bus options, but yes, the train would be a better deal.

For bus from San Jose, there a couple options--Santa Clara Valley Transit bus 22 or 522 to the Palo Alto transit center. Or, Monterey airbus from SJC to SFO.

From the Palo Alto transit center or SFO, Samtrans bus 397 and the KX express will get you to downtown SF.

Do note that for a return out of SF at 9pm, trains have very limited schedules. If you miss one, you'll be waiting another hour or more for the next one.
