PCH on motorcycle

Heading out to california to ride PCH on harley over next long weekend. flying into LA and renting bike. then short plan to cruise via Muhulland dr on out to hwy 1. No specific plans just thought we'd "wing it" and see where the road takes us. traveling with only a t-bag for 5 days- have few stops friends have said are "must sees" ... Only hoping the weather cooperates , not worried about cool as much as hope for no rain. figure we might have to just stay in @ 250 mile radius once we get to PCH ... any advice? suggestions? don't have any reservations as figured plenty of "pillows" along the way.

No plan to make it all the way to SF or even Carmel but will enjoy the ride just the same. Any free advice appreciated

thanks ;)

Here are a couple of side trips that are cool in the Malibu area:

Take PCH/CA SR 1 north from Santa Monica. Turn right at CA SR 27/Topanga Canyon Blvd. Go up the hill, turn left on Fernwood Pacific Drive (at the Fire Station, no signal). Go up that hill through a very rustic residential area. The road turns into Tuna Canyon at the top. Tuna Canyon will continue downhill (strap your helmet on tight) back to PCH. Turn right on PCH.

Then at Las Flores Canyon, turn right. Take Los Flores Canyon to the top of the hill, and turn right on Rambla Pacifico. Rambla Pacifico turns into Piuma Road. Piuma Ts into Malibu Canyon Road. Turn right and in a couple of miles, turn left on Mulholland Hwy. You'll go by the Rock Store. Stop there if it's a weekend, of course. Continue on Mulholland Hwy. Cross Kanan-Dume Road. Bear left at Encinal Canyon Road. It will take you back down to PCH and reward you with a spectacular view of Pt. Dume. It's one of the best views in Malibu. Turn right at PCH and you're back on your way north.

If you like lazier roads, just turn right on Topanga Canyon Blvd. from PCH. Turn left at Mulholland Drive. Then a left at Mulholland Highway. You can take Mulholland Highway all the way to PCH from there, though make sure you follow the signs around Decker Canyon, as it can be confusing. But, the water is always there, so you'll alway be able to figure out how to get to PCH. There aren't a lot of dead-end downhill roads.
