Condor Express Whale watching tour Santa Barbara

We were in Santa Barbara June 16th and went Whale watching on the Condor express and had the opportunity to see a mother and her calf. Both whales breached the water several times. It was truly an amazing experience. I highly recommend the Condor Express for whale watching.

We will be visiting Santa Barbara around the middle of September and would like to take a Condor Express Whale Watching cruise. Is it necessary to make reservations in advance and, if so, about how far in advance? Thanks to all you fellow travelers on Tripadvisor who make traveling so much more pleasant.

We made our reservations a week in advance. I do believe the boat was only half full and we went on a Monday.

I don't want to spoil the party, but just to let you know, whale watching season is normally from about February to late May or June. You're not likely to see whales in September. There's lots of other critters out there though.

But I do have to say that, while the Condor Express is a nice boat, the people who run it are awful. The office staff in particular are rude and unprofessional. As a Santa Barbara native, I am always escorting visitors around to see the sites and I have come to dread the Condor operation. I'd have to recommend any of the other cruising operations around here over the Condor. Try Capt Don or maybe the Land Shark, an amphibious open-air bus that will show you around town and then drive right into the harbor for a cruise.

End of Last September we went out with them and saw and followed a Blue Whale :-) and a Humpback and also a few thousand dolphins in the largest group I have ever seen and some of those lovely porpoises that look like baby orcas (I forget the name )....all in all the most amazing wildlife I have ever seen. We phoned a couple of days in advance to make a resrvation and it worked out just fine...why not give them a call and ask what they recomend for when you will be in the area...it may cost a phone call but whats that against the chance to see a blue whale? :-) :-) :-)

I am sure you will enjoy it...we are going back this year to see them again (in 5 weeks in counting)and this will be my husbands 3rd trip out with them in 5 years! not bad when you consider we live nr London England :-)

MUST HAVE CHANGED

I'd just like to get the word out that myself and my girlfriend had an absolutely terrible experience on their trip.

The employees were rude, the over priced food was horrible, the restrooms were dirty, and on top of that when we asked for a refund since we didn't see a single whale on our 3 hour excursion, we were immediately denied and escorted off the ship.

I spoke to 3 "captains" and then called the owner, not only were they all extremely rude and unforgiving, but their comments basically revolved around "Be happy we're giving you a waiver to come again - besides, you saw dolphins. We don't even need to issue you a waiver. Thanks for reading, mainly I suppose I'm just frustrated that no where on their dock was posted that they do not offer refunds. The employees there are probably on commission and are rude because any refund would affect their money.

Not recommended, owner hung up on me when I made contact. Stingy!!

In reponse to the last post...you have to accept that its wildlife spotting your doing...they can't just book a few whales in and sail to a prearranged point where they will jump out the water for you to photograph! if thats what you want try seaworld down the coast? It clearly says if you dont spot anything at all you can get a return trip FOC...you saw Dolphins be happy. I think this is the best money spent on our many trips to the US and will go again when we return.

I have been on the Condor Express several times and recommend it to our hotel guests frequently. I have never ever experienced or heard of any hint of rude or unprofessional behavior from any of the staff or boat crew.

If you don't see whales, they'll let you come back another day. That seems like a fair deal to me.
