Five days at the Santa Barbara

We are going to be at the Santa Barbara for 5 days last week of May. We want to visit 2 or 3 wineries(self tour). If we want to spend a night close to the wineries, where should be stay? Thanks.

I wouldn't bother moving. The Santa Ynez Valley is only a 30-40 minute scenic drive away and lodging options are somewhat limited. I suppose you could stay in Solvang, however--but its very touristy of course.

With luck the hills will still be green in May and it will be very very pretty. You might consider also visiting La Purisima Spanish mission, which has been well restored but still sits out in the countryside as it did 200 plus years ago.

If you're thinking you don't want to drive after tasting wine and want to hit a late afternoon wine tasting in a town, Solvang would have the largest variety of accomodations. It is considerded quaint by some and kitschy by others.

Los Olivos has some nice lodgings (search here on Trip Advisor) and Buellton has basic and nice accomodations (that's where the Sideways guys stay).

Chumash Casino has a hotel.

You might try the Santa Ynez Inn.
