Santa Barbara to las Vegas

What's the quickest and/or cheapest way to get from Santa Barbara to Las Vegas? Me and some friends want to go for a birthday weekend but don't have a car so cheap coach company names etc would be a great help

Your best bet would be for all your friends to chip in and rent a car for the weekend.

It would be less expensive and faster then taking a coach.

Thanks for replying, what's the age limit for renting a car as I'll be 22 and a British citizen so not sure if I could rent it xx

I believe the age limit is 21 with most companies.

Absolutely agree about renting a car. You can share driving duties on the way there/back. Once you get to Vegas, park the car (often free where you are staying) and don't bother driving due to traffic. Walk or share a cab. There is some transit available in Vegas, such as a monorail for some of the city. Plus, you wont be tempted to drink and drive.

Sounds good thanks! We'll be able to stop off as much as we want that way too! In case I can't rent a car do you know if trains or coaches go between Santa Barbara and Vegas? N which ones to recommend?

I don't recommend either option of coaches (is that BUSES?) or trains. They do not go straight to Las Vegas, and the buses can make insane detours to make stops.

Best would be to find a shuttle to Vegas. There are shuttles that run all day long between SB and the Chumash Casino, so see if they have one that gets folks to Vegas.

Another option would be to search for shared rides on Craig's List. With the price of gas still pretty high most folks would be happy to be able to split the cost of a full tank (or 2 ) of gas.

No train to Vegas from SB! Nor is it easy to get by train and bus together to LV - instead, just rent a car, drive down to Ventura, get off on the 126, go to the 5, head south, head east on the 114 and then find the offramp for the Pear Blossom Highway (be sure to follow the signs for the Pear Blossom Highway and not the Angeles Highway). For reasons known only to the State of California, the Pear Blossom Highway ( a two lane road through the desert ) is numbered CA-138 when you first get off, but then later you have to make a left (it's about 20 miles or so) and stay on the Pear Blossom Highway, which is then numbered CA-18.

It his the I-15 after awhile (right hand on ramp) and then, before you know it, you're in Barstow and facing the last few hours to Vegas. Google maps says it's 6 hours - but everyone drives so fast on the I-15 that most Santa Barbarans call it a five and a half hour drive.

There do appear to be shuttle services and RoadRunner is one of them - I can't even begin to imagine the cost (they charge about 80 per person for the two hour ride one way to the airport), but you have to be careful with cheaper shuttles because while they may eventually get you to Las Vegas, there may (as mentioned above) be interminable stops at tiny casinos outside of town who subsidize them.

Or you could fly out of Santa Barbara for $300 per person and up for round trip flights (average is about 350-400 per person).

I don't think there are any cheap, legitimate coach companies - but I trust Roadrunner - so check out their prices (just google Santa Barbara Roadrunner Shuttle).
