Carpinteria State Beach has campsites on the sand. Ask for the sites next to Carpinteria Creek, or on the sand if that's to your liking.

El Capitan State Beach is another one in addition to REfugio. Skip Gaviota State Beach if you can - still near the beach but campsites are lacking.

Here are the Coastal Records Projects pictures of the best beach campsite on the south coast in Santa Barbara County.

Campgrounds on Paradise Road (Red Rock area) aren't on the coast but are near a river. Less than 30 min from SB proper and much easier to get sites than beach campgrounds.
