It would be helpful to know what you like to do - but my top 5 are:

1) Spend time at the beaches. Explore several of them

www.santabarbara.com/activities/beaches/

2) Santa Barbara Wineries and wine tasting

http://www.santabarbara.com/winecountry/

3) Visit the Santa Barbara Mission

4) A hike in the mountains - at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

5) Shopping and eating

If want to go out on the water and do further exploration, Channel Islands are nearby Santa Barbara - several miles south of Santa Barbara...

The Santa Barbara Mission is tops on our list, beautiful grounds and surrounding area. Walking on State Street window shopping, visiting Stern's Wharf, having a seafood meal at Harbor House or Shellfish Co on wharf, seeing the SB Court House, rent bikes or surreys to ride on the bike path along the ocean, the arts and crafts set up on the grass area on Sundays near the wharf, the SB Zoo for a start.

Here is a better resource for SB wine country.

I'd also go up the 154 (San Marcos Pass) to the 246 and stop in Santa Ynez and Solvang.

I'd also consider a scenic drive through Lower Montecito Village, up Old Mill Road (which becomes Hot Springs) and head over to San Ysidro Ranch for lunch or a glass of wine and come back using Sycamore Canyon Rd.

Sounds like a fun trip. I put this list together a few years ago and thought it might be helpful - sbadventureco.com/blog/…

You can look for local concerts and events at www.independent.com - they have a good local calendar of events.

If you have a car, you could take the ferry to Channel Islands National Park. It is a great day trip.

As for things to do in Santa Barbara, I would recommend:

(1) Stern's Wharf (where State St. meets the ocean). Its a nice place to walk and see a beautiful view of Santa Barbara from the water and if you are here on a Sunday, I would highly recommend walking along Cabrillo Blvd for our famous Art Walk. Its a beauiful walk and more than 100 exhibitors selling handmade crafts and art objects within 150 feet of the ocean, its very nice and I would say it is a "Don't miss"

(2) There is always shopping/people watching along State St. Lower State St is our downtown, historical, shopping and entertainment district. Walking the Red Tile Tour or along State St is popular and will allow you to see a lot of Santa Barbara;

(3) Our beautiful and historic courthouse (it has amazing "Santa Barbara" architecture, a room with beautiful murals and a beautiful tower which you can take an elevator to the top of for a beautiful view of the city) and its only one block off State St. and takes about 30 minutes to look around;

(4) If beaches are your thing I would recommend Butterfly beach is top notch for both people watching and swimming with East Beach being a close second;

(5) The Santa Barbara Mission is historic and interesting. Self guided walking tours are $3 and take about 1 hour;

(6) Perhaps a tour, Whale watching aboard the Condor (www.condorcruises.com/) is great. Also you could try the fully narrated, amphibious tours of Santa Barbara depart daily from Cabrillo Boulevard at Stearns Wharf aboard the "Santa Barbara Land Shark." (www.out2seesb.com).

(7) Lastly, a "Don't Miss" is the Wineries of Northern Santa Barbara County, about 45 minutes from the heart of downtown. You can drive yourself or find a nice tour here on TripAdvisor.
