wineries and hotels in Santa Barbara area+

We're doing a spontaneous two day, one night trip to the Santa Barbara area right after Christmas. We are not familiar with the area at all. Can anyone give advice on where to stay and wineries to visit. We'd like to stay close to the wineries so we don't have much driving to do after wine tasting. Also any suggestions on wineries to visit would be appreciated. What else is in the area that might be of interest. There are 4 of us. Mid 50's and Mid 20's Thanks for your help. .

The wineries are in Santa Barbara County, not the city of. The closest towns are with accommodations are Solvang, Los Olivos & Buellton.

The Top Questions for Santa Barbara has a couple of topics on wineries. If you are on a computer or tablet, you should see the questions to the right of the forums.

Which specific wineries you want to see might determine where you stay.

Or, there are tasting rooms in the City of Santa Barbara and Los Olivos.

Los Olivos would be a very good base for your getaway. It's a small, very walkable town with decent lodging choices in all price ranges and several tasting rooms, shops and good restaurants in a fairly compact area. In addition, there are about 2 dozen wineries within about a 5-mile radius of "downtown" Los Olivos.

We spent a week at our Worldmark timeshare in Solvang this summer and devoted two days to Los Olivos. Had a great time!

Los Olivos is a great area, but thin on hotels. Look at this map of accommodations.

There is a nice Marriott in Buellton near the wineries, it is off the highway a block or two so quiet. Lots of nice restaurants to eat nearby.

just to clear this up-

Santa Barbara city has quite a few "tasting rooms" where you can easily walk to and fro. Some are run by just one winery while others offer wines from different wineries.

Some are actually producing the wine right there, so ignore that first post. The city does have wineries.

Check the current list here:

You probably won't find any vineyards in the city proper though...
