1 night in SB, splitting our drive from SF to LA

Hi guys

We are driving from SF to LA this friday and thought SB would be a good place to break up the drive for the night

I was looking at Parkside Inn

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks

If you're planning on driving coastal Highway 1 through Big Sur, then Santa Barbara is W-A-Y too far to drive in one day from SF. The drive WITHOUT stops is approx. 8 hours. With stops, could be 12-18. Or more.

Cambria is the recommended mid way stop between SF and LA with only 1 night for the drive. 2 nights are recommended to do the drive justice. Otherwise, you'll be rushing through some of California's finest scenery.

If you are taking route 101, Santa Barbara is about a 5 hour drive from San Francisco. In that case, it would be a great place to spend the night. I would agree, that if you're taking route 1, Cambria would make much more sense. It's a charming little town with lots of accommodations and many nice places to eat. While the ride down on the 101 is an interesting ride, it does not come close to the spectacular beauty of coastal route 1, known locally as the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).

If you've decided on SB and Parkside Inn still has availability, grab it before it's too late. Warm weekend predicted and SB will be filling up pronto.

Be aware that many Santa Barbara hotels have a 2 night minimum on weekends.

It depends on the route you are taking. Santa Barbara isn't good for the coastal route (Highway 1) because it is too far south. Cambria is the midway point. It isn't much better on the 101 route, I'd stop in Paso Robles as the more halfway location.

What ever you do, make reservations now.
