Good restaurant near Pier? or Promenade?

We will be visiting Santa Monica for a day trip with our teen boys. Want tostart out at the Promenade, then go to the Pier in the evening. Any suggestions on good restaurants in the area? Maybe a deli or lunch spot near the promenade and dinner @ the Pier? We like seafood, mexican, italian, & american. Will be in casual dress. thanks for any input!

That area is FILLED with restaurants - simply choose whichever menu sounds best. Nothing but choices.

I suggest visiting the Pier during the day (combining Promenade and Pier is just a few hours), and taking the Tide Shuttle to Main Street and visiting Venice (or you could start there, and take the Shuttle to the Promenade/Pier). Also many choices for lunch on Main Street (favorites include Library Ale House, Omelet Parlour, World Cafe, Rose Cafe - all because these have outdoor patios).

Dinner choices are limited on the Pier, the Lobster is great, but expensive and not for casual dress. There's a Bubba Gump on the Pier itself that the boys might like. I happen to love Chez Jay, across the street from the Pier - great steaks and seafood, all locals.
