Santa Monica in August. Is it always very expensive?

Peak season, yes. But is there anything happening in early August (8-11) that is causing Santa Monica to be so expensive. Is it worth booking now, or wait to see any deals in the future... do the hotels have sales or are they busy enough to not bother with sales!

We've previously stayed at The Huntley, but now with our 5 year old daughter and want something ideally within walking distance of the beach/pier for around $320...any thoughts suggestions always appreciated

Yes, Santa Monica is always expensive. I do know that in October-December they will post sales (Fairmont, The Shore, Loews) so keep looking each day.

Thanks for the advice. We are planning / booking our 25 day road trip from San Francisco to San Diego trying to take in as much as possible en route! We loved Santa Monica when we came 7 years ago, so would love to come back!

Maybe try a new place, the Crowne Plaza is nice on the Ventura Beach/Pier to the north.

To the south of Santa Monica, check out Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, or places in Orange County like Huntington Beach and Newport Beach.
