Santa Ynez vs Los Olivos vs Solvang vs Beullton

We will be spending one night in one of these towns. Which town is the more artsy, quiet and cultural?

We like art galleries.

If you had one of these towns to choose from which would it be and why?

We will be coming from 3 days in Big Sur.We plan on visiting wineries and then heading to Santa Barbara

We are 50 somethings, no kids.

Thanks

Buellton is the gateway to Solvang. Lots of good budget hotels and eateries in the area, but not known for art or culture. Since most hotels are just off the 101 freeway I would not expect too much quiet.

Santa Ynez is a bedroom community next door to Solvang. You'll find a historic mission on the Solvang/Santa Ynez border, but, again, no art galleries, etc. I'm not sure what options there are here for accommodations in Santa Ynez. It's been quite some time since I've been down that way.

Solvang is quaint with its Danish architecture. You will find art here and, again, the mission Santa Ines is close by for a look at California's early history, so there is an element of culture. Solvang is very pretty at night, but it will be crowded in the summer, so be prepared for that. There are many inns to chose from in Solvang. There's one hotel with little English cottages on the grounds. They used to call it "The Land of Narnia". I've been in several of these rooms when they were empty and they are just cute, cute, cute! They changed the name of the place, so I'll have to research it to find its new name.

Los Olivos is a very small town with just a few shops and restaurants. If you blink you'll pass it without realizing it. The outlaying vineyards/wineries are what this area is known for. Fess Parker's (you know him as TV's Daniel Boone) winery has an inn on-site. There's also the nearby Chumash Casino, which has a hotel on the property.

The new name of that hotel in Solvang is The Wine Valley Inn & Cottages.

thanks Kibblesmom..you've been a great help. I actually was on ther WineValley Inn's website..looks very nice.

I was also looking at Lompoc as the BW Cairns is rated #1 although I prefer a B&B atmosphere as we are celebrating our 35th anniversay the day we stay there.

Fess Parkers looks awesome but a bit out of our budget since are on a 3 week sojourn. I suspect the Casina may be up there as well but I'll check it out.

Thanks again!

Ok..I think I can finally say that we have decided on staying in Solvang. I am debating between Winne Valley Inn, Solvang Garden Lodge or the Hadsted House. I see the Hadsted as being #1 for hotels and Solvang Garden Lodge #1 for B&B here on TA but I have seen littel else written for Hadsten House.

Does anyone know about this establishment? I probably should post that on the Solvang forum but that doesn't seem to get much traffic.

Thanks, Kibblesmom for all your help.

Maybe posting in the Santa Barbara forum will get you some answers about the accommodations in Solvang you're interested in.

I wish I could give you some answers, but it's been years since I've been down that way and only day trips, at that.

I hope you find a nice place for your anniversary visit.

Not sure if it's too late, but wanted to give you some feedback on lodging in Solvang....out of your choices, I would choose the Hadsten House. The others are nice inns, but Hadsten House has been completely remodeled in the past year and done nicely, plus it is on the edge of Solvang and everything is walking distance in town. Plenty of shopping, wine tasting, golf, and plenty of other activities within a very short drive. If you have any specific questions, please PM me...I live here and would be happy to help.
