Inexspenive evening activities?

Afriend and I will be in Los Alamos for the weekend and are looking for some inexpensive activities and places to eat for Fri. and Sat. afternoon/night. We aren't much for shopping, but eating, dirinking and outdoor activities are great.

Any suggestions for the area? We don't mind driving a little. Are the local wineries pricey for wine tasting? Do any wineries have cafes?

TIA for your help!

Hello Khorais,

While in Los Alamos, plan on spending one of your weekend nights at the American Flatbread Pizza Company....local food and they open their bakery on weekends for dinner and fun...lots of locals come here since the food is delicious and the atmosphere is comfortable:

Being in Los Alamos, you are in the middle of wine country, with many wineries to the north and south. Most wineries are only open during the day and tastings will cost anywhere from free to $10. For a cheap outing, you could pack a picnic bought from Quakenbush Cafe in Los Alamos and go to Rancho Sisqoc Winery http://www.ranchosisquoc.com/ and eat under the trees surrounded by great views. Not sure if there are any wineries that also serve food, but many of the restaurants have a full selection of local wines.

Here are a couple websites for general winery info:

And if you like the movie "Sideways", here is a site that gives the map and touring guide to the wineries shown in the movie:

For cheap day trip activities near the Santa Ynez Valley (15 miles south of Los Alamos), here are a few:

~Visit Nojoqui Falls near Buellton that is spectacular and should be flowing with our recent rains www.sbparks.org/Scripts/ParksDetail.asp…

~Visit a miniature horse farm in Solvang http://qsminis.com/

~Visit an Ostrich Farm at Ostrichland in Buellton http://www.yelp.com/biz/ostrich-land-buellton

~Go Hiking http://www.sb-outdoors.org/

~Visit the Solvang Motorcycle Museum http://www.motosolvang.com/

Finally, if you really want a thrill, take a Glider Ride over the Santa Ynez Valley http://www.gliderrides.com/

That should be a good start, but let me know if you need any specific local info...

The Los Olivos Cafe is a nice place to eat not too far away from Solvang, Gainey Vineyards is a nice place to wine taste in this area. :)

The American Flatbread Pizza Company and Mattei's Tavern were both great!

I know of almost no nightlife in the area. I've always just driven to the Chumash Casino to see how fast I can burn up $100! Or make $100!

There are now at least two tasting rooms that are open late in Solvang. Till 11pm on weekends. Tastes of the Valley and Wilson/Bradford. Tastes has winemakers in quite often on Fridays. Wilson/Bradford often has music on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally there is a new bookstore, Valley Books, which has music and desserts most Saturdays.

All have websites.

That said, it is quiet at night.
