Sonora is in central California in our Gold Country! Lot's to do!

Sonora is not known for it's restaurants but you'll find plenty of them so just check the reviews here on Tripadvisor "restaurants in Sonora" and that will help you pick one that suits your tastes and mood.

Less than 10 minutes from your hotel is Jamestown which is an old goldtown with a small, historic, quaint main street with some shops and goldpanning. There are several places to eat. And a couple minutes from Jamestown is Railtown 1897 State Historic Park.

If you have an evening to kill while in Sonora then the Chicken Ranch Bingo in Jamestown is a hoot! Lots of fun. Arrive early.

Just 15 minutes from Sonora is Columbia - another historic goldrush town but bigger and with the main street set up like the old days with shops and vendors and touristy stuff.

30 minutes from your hotel is the Moaning Caverns Adventure park!

If you don't mind driving, then less than an hour from your hotel are the Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

You didn't mention what dates you'd be traveling but if you are going in May then you could catch the famous Calaveras jumping frog jubilee at the Calaveras County Fair.

You can look everything up but I've pasted links for everything I mentioned below! Have fun.

These are great suggestions.

Our favorite restaurants: Diamondback Grill on the main drag in Sonora. Be Wok Sushi for Chinese food. Woods Creek cafe on the highway in Jamestown for a true "local" experience breakfast. ALso your hotel has a very decent restaurant for breakfast.

None of it is Haute cuisine, but there's lots to enjoy.

Oh and if it's warm and you feel like it - you can go boating within 40 minutes at either Lake Tulloch or New Melones resevoir. Or just take a look. They have boat rentals and water toys.

I’d take a day and drive the scenic hour to Calaveras Big Trees and check out the giant Sequoias. If you’ve never seen one they’ll amaze you. On your way back down Hwy 4 stop in Murphys for lunch and wander around the old mining town, they have a number of nice wine tasting rooms from the surrounding area.

Head to Jamestown for great dinners! It’s about 4 miles from your hotel in Sonora. The top restaurants are Jamestown Hotel, the National Hotel, for more casual, smaller menu, The Service Station.
