Birthday things to do in Temecula

I'm taking my wife down to Temecula for her birthday, and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for activities while we're down there. We definitely want to go hiking, and a spa would be nice too. Thanks a lot!

You can go wine tasting or how about the Pechanga Casino? It's actually a 4-star hotel with lovely facilities and I think even a spa. Check it out!!

I reccomend you go somewhere else. I just returned and I don't intend on ever going back. We went wine tasting for a full day and did not find anything worth buying. We did drive by the South Coast Winery. You can stay there but the spa is not ready for another year. I saw the website for Los Willows and thought that looked interesting. I don't know how that spa can be so lush and green while the rest of area is dry desert.

I did not visit Pechanga since I was so disappointed with the lackluster wine country that I did not want to push my luck and waste more time at an Indian Gaming Casino.

As an alternative take your wife to Carlsbad and go to La Costa Spa. Stay there and play golf and go to the beach. If you desire the desert you may as well go to Palm Springs.

Good Luck!

Wine Country is great! I don't know what that other person is talking about...Maybe they weren't in good company. There are several wineries down Rancho Calif Road. It's fun to jump from one to another and try the various wines. Some are free and some will charge you 5 bucks for the tasting, but they will give you a free wine glass (not a bad deal, souvenir). People in Temecula are very friendly.

I once went on a hot air balloon over temecula, it was awesome. If it's your birthday, they give you champagne and cut you a birthday cake. They depart really early in the morning and you have to have a reservation. I don't know the website, but ii'm sure you could find it in google.

Pechanga is also good, but i prefer Pala Casino. It's about 10 minutes south of temecula. Really, really nice resort. They have a great staff and all the anemities you could want. www.palacasino.com check it out. It's a good spot, they usually have live bands playing in the resort as well.

I live in Temecula. It is a fantastic place!!! South Coast Winery looks incredible from the outside, I live within walking distance of the resort.

As a local, I would spending time in old town antiquing. Temecula is one of the old stagecoach stops from the wild west, and the chamber of commerce has done a wonderful job restoring the town. Old Town is on Front Street (opposite side of 15 frwy from wineries). If you like Mexican food visit Rosa's Cantina, not to be confused with Rosa's Tortilla Factory. This is my favorite restraunt in the town!!!

Second, if you can afford it, take a hot air balloon ride. I reccommend A Grape Escape. Rusty Manning is the owner and I know him personally. The hot air balloons take you over all of the vineyards. It is incredible.

Lastly, and the most "popular" part, the vineyards. You have to visit Wilson Creek winery. It is gorgeous. There are incredible gardens surrounded by vineyards to relax in and drink wine. I personally think Ponte Family Estate vineyards have the best wine, and you get to keep the tasting glass as a souviner. They have a restraunt called the Smokehouse, and it is my 2nd favorite restraunt in Temecula.

Have a great time on your trip to our wonderful town!!!

I think the time of year has a lot to do with the "lack luster" appearance/interpretation of the Temecula wine country.

Also a local, I drive into the wine country at least 3-4 times a week for the last 11 years and in February when the vineyards are dormant during the winter months it can be very gray and dull. But come back in the summer and fall when the hills are all blooming and green and its a completely different experience.

The South Coast Winery and Spa are in full swing and everyone loves the restaurant. They all rave about the food.

Hello From Sunrise Balloons!

Dan Glick introduced ballooning in Temecula 30 years ago! Dan Glick is by far the best pilot I have ever flown with! I know that sounds funny coming from a person that works with Sunrise Balloons, but I do because they are the best! For a grand birthday outing you'll receive anywhere between 50-100 complimentary photographs and a video of the take off in a gorgeous non-logo hot air balloon! A birthday banner is placed on your private compartment, champagne picnic is served in flight and upon landing souvenir birthday helium balloon and flight certificate is given! After your balloon outing I would recommend taking her to the Churon Winery & Inn for a sit down breakfast. The wineries open and close between 10:30 or 11 am to 4:30 or 5pm. Sterling Rose Limousine is a fairly new limo company to the area and has gorgeous new limos to take her out to the wineries in! For dinner I would suggest the Plantation House restaurant at Maurice Carrie Winery (awesome food)! As for spa treatments there are several in the area and an in room message is available at most of the B&Bs in Temecula. I teach yoga at the Fallbrook Wellnes Spa which is a full service spa with a great atmosphere, only 15 minutes South on the I-15 freeway. Everything of the Best!!!

If you like horse back riding Temecula is a meca. There is a horseback trail riding business that caters to the wine tasteing crowd. They take you on an hour or so ride through the vineyards and give you a perspecitve that you can't get from the back of a limo of tour bus. They take you throught the back hills and you get a close up look at the various vines and the amazing backcountry views. Thier website is http://www.winecountrytrailsbyhorseback.com
