Hi New Travelors,

There isn't a picnic area at South Coast Winery however there is a few wineries that do offer picnic areas. You can try Wilson Creek, they have a grassy area for picnicking. Bel Vino has live entertainment every Sunday and advertises to bring your own picnic lunch. Mira Monte has picnic grounds and they are on a hill with beautiful views.

You can contact Temecula Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau for more information regarding wineries with picnic areas and a view at 1-888-363-2852.

Hello NewTravelors - as a whole, the 'wine country' sits in a valley - there really isn't much of a view from the majority of the wineries. There are a couple of exceptions for view - Faulkner and Callaway. However, neither of these has picnic spots. Both locations have restaurants with reasonably good food.

Also, just as a word of caution - if you are coming in on a weekend - the wine country can get crazy busy and the picnic areas fill up quick - sometimes with young children running around - so if you are envisioning a quiet lunch for two - please keep this in mind.

newtravelors, The views in Wine Country are spectacular right now... partly because the surrounding hills and mountains are verdant green with spring growth and partly because the vines are starting to bud. In between the rows of vineyards are lush grasses and wildflowers. And while the main road through wine country is down in the valley, at least 19 wineries that I can think of are either perched on high ground or have elevated areas with views. And many of the others have great scenery, like LongShadow Ranch with its Belgian Draft horses alongside a creek bed or Wilson Creek Winery with a tree-lined stream running along side the picnic area.

Ten of the 37 wineries have restaurants, and they generally won't allow food on their grounds except Wilson Creek, where picnicking down by the creek is a great option. Also, Miramonte does not allow outside food because it offers a variety of food boards... a presentation of different items (like cheeses, fruits, crackers, and bread on one of them) served on polished olive wood slabs. These might be a good alternative to bringing your own picnic, and the views of the distant mountains and the vineyards along long Valley from their comfortable outdoor patio are terrific.

If you do come on a weekend, it will be much more crowded as Meadow mentions, especially on Saturday. My favorite day is Sunday, when there are some weekend benefits - like live music at many wineries - without the Saturday crowds.

In short, there are plenty of great places to picnic, and unlike other wine countries, there are plenty of restaurants if you prefer to sit down and be served. The best source for detailed winery information is the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, on the web at www.temeculawines.org.

Enjoy your visit!

Hi NewTravelors,

South Coast Winery offers some beautiful views especially while dining on the balcony of the Vineyard Rose Restaurant. There are gardened terraces scattered about the property ideal for enjoying a shared bottle of wine and nibbling on a to-go appetizer such as the Golden Bear Cheese Platter. You can enjoy walking the grounds and exploring South Coast Winery all while taking in the vineyard views as well as views of Mount Palomar.
