Family activities in Temecula

We are staying in San Diego for a family reunion in August but we also have other family in Riverside...we are planning on meeting them in Temecula as it is 1/2 way...we have 4 kids between 7 and 14 years old between us (3 boys and 1 girl) and were looking for fun stuff for them to do. We will have about 7 hours. We have looked at Pennypickles as one option but were wondering what other family activities there were to do. I know that it is very much a wine town but we are looking for other activities.

Thanks

There's always Mulligan's in Murrieta. It's just off the 15 freeway: http://www.mulliganmurrieta.com/ .

Hi Pam - unless you are into outdoor activities, Temecula really doesn't have family things to do. There's a water park at Lake Skinner, but for the cost of entry both to the park and the lake - it really doesn't pencil out.

There's a couple of businesses that offer horse back tours through the wine country. Otherwise, we have a new bowling center and a couple of movie places and quite a few public pools for cooling off.

If you like hiking or trails - the Santa Rosa Plateau offers both. Its up in the La Cresta area.

Locals spend a lot of time in the parks (we have gorgeous parks) and riding bikes, roller skating (lots of sidewalks and bike trails that are kid safe).

Do be aware that it can get really HOT here - I see that our weather is going to start warming up significantly next week which can make outdoor play uncomfortable during the heat of the day.

There is Old Town Temecula with some interesting shops and stuff, plus a nice museum nearby.

Tom's Farms is north of Temecula on I-15, and is worth a visit.

And if you are willing to go a bit farther, Castle Park is a great Amusement Park in the Riverside area.

(OK, I am biased on the last location, since I have an aerial photo from when the park opened that was originally in the founder, Bud Hurlbut's office.)

Tom's Farms is almost in Corona, and not really an all-day thing for families. As an adult, I love to stop there; as a kid, I would have been dead-bored.

Are your Riverside relatives not interested in visiting San Diego for the day?
