Fall foliage at beginning of October?

We are arriving October 2nd for 3 nights in Boulder. Will we be too late for fall foliage? I hear that the mountains have already had their first snow (!)

Please recommend places to drive for great photos. Also, it seems that most hotels are already booked -- is there something going on that weekend?

Thanks!

Oct 4th is Homecoming for the University of Colorado and they are playing University of Texas. This probably is why hotels are booked.

You will probably see some aspens in the high country and at lower elevations many more.

Snow can happen every month... always needed!

In Boulder itself, that's probably going to be prime time for fall foliage. Anywhere you drive will be wonderful, especially if you get a clear, blue sky day! One great circle drive would be to go west on Hwy 119 through Boulder Canyon to Nederland, then north on Hwy 72 which is the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway. This will lead to Hwy 7 through Allenspark to Estes Park, where you can explore Rocky Mountain National Park. You can return to Boulder via Hwy 36 through Lyons. The drive itself isn't long, maybe 2-3 hours without stopping, but you'll have plenty of photo ops along the way, particularly if you visit the park. Perfect time of year to do this!
