Denver or Boulder - Which place for a 2 day stay?

My husband and are flying into Denver next month for a roadtrip out to Las Vegas. We are wanting to spend a few days in Denver or Boulder before we start the drive. We've never been to Colorado so we aren't sure what each place is like, we originally were just going to stay in Denver but then we heard Boulder was more of a tourist spot? (not sure if this is correct?)

We would like to go to Grizzly Rose in Denver at some point and I've noticed some good reviews on Banjo Billy's Bus Tours?

Any recommendations? Is a day in each a good idea? Or are we best to spend the two days in one place?

Thanks in advance.

Denver is not in the mountains. It is called "Queen of the Plains" for a reason.

What sort of things are you interested in doing? Denver has some nice museums (Art, Natural History, Zoo), but if you want to hike, see the mountains, people watch, eat, shop or listen to music, then Boulder is a better bet.

What's your general itinerary? It only takes 11 hours to drive to Vegas from Boulder if you drive straight through.

Thanks for the reply.

We basically would love to just soak up the beauty of Colorado - we love the scenic stuff, shopping, dining and live music. We will be visiting alot of cities on our trip, is Denver just a big city? I guess Boulder seems alittle bit more "country-ish"?

We don't have much of an itinerary. We're arriving in Denver on the 29th and have to be in Vegas by the 5th. So basically anything goes on our route to Vegas. Mt Rushmore is one thing we would love to see on the way though.

If you have any ideas please feel free to suggest.

Thanks again.

Mt. Rushmore is not on your route, it is quite a bit out of your way. It's a good 6-7 hour drive north of Denver.

Maybe if you check the city websites you will get more of an idea about them, see photos, etc. Yes, Denver is a big city but it has a lot to offer. www.denver.org

I would not consider Boulder to be "country-ish". It has more of a college town feel to it. http://www.bouldercoloradousa.com/visitor/

If you mainly want to soak up the scenery, shop, etc. perhaps you should consider spending some time in the mountains: Breckenridge, Vail or even Aspen would not be too far off route.
