the most scenic drive

We will be going to Colorado in July. We are staying in Cripple Creek. Can anyone give me some suggestions for great, scenic drives. The kind that you want to stop, enjoy the view, let the kids walk around and take tons of nature pictures? I want any suggestions. Especially the off the wall areas that you have found that are close to or not too far away from this area. We are planning on visiting the gorge area as well.

thanks for any suggestions or advice.

Great drive along Phantom Canyon Road - from Cripple Creek to Canon City. Gravel, but in good condition. The road follows the line of an old railroad, so is not steep. There are two old tunnels to drive through. Did this drive in April - very scenic. Have a great trip.

go to colorado.com and you can find a bunch of info on scenic byways.

That said, the one near Cripple Creek is the Gold Belt Tour:

The Frontier Pathways is in the vicinity (although Colo is a big state and so it is all relative) and might be of interest...

Totally!

After that you can go east to Penrose and then up north on 115 toward Colorado Springs. Stop at Cheyenne State Park.
