flight connection times

We are flying from Denver on American Airlines to LA and on Air New Zealand to New Zealand in February. Our travel agent says we have to have an 8 hour layover time in Los Angeles and that this is required by IATA rules. Has anyone ever heard of such a requirement?

We had a four hour layover in Denver and were hungry. We ate at the Village Pizza in Concourse C. It has the worse spagetti sauce in the world. Tasted like they opened a can of Hunts Tomato Sause and dumped it on the pasta. Bad, really bad.

Try McDonalds next door.

I have flown international many times from Denver out of LA to various destinations. The longest layover has been 5 hours - and frankly it could have been shorter, but we were worried about any kind of delay hindering our connections. IMO your travel agent wants you to have lots of room for error. (too much!)

As noted, better to post in Air Travel. But for sure you don't need that long. But it does beg the question, is your agent booking you on a thru ticket from Denver or are you on a separate DEN-LAX? Make sure you have a single ticket that includes the separate flight segments so the carrier is responsible for you all the way through.
