16 HR Layover in Denver Question

Hi! Me and my boyfriend have a 16 hr layover in Denver near the end of April. I will be eventually flying into San Jose, Costa Rica, but would love to spend some time in Denver with this huge layover.

Note: Flight lands in Denver at 7:30 AM and leaves 11:55PM

Few questions as I have never been to Colorado (or truly any big city in the US..I'm from Canada)

1. Any recommendations for what to do with this time?

2. Would LOVE to go to a Colorado Rockies game.. and the schedule matches up! The game start at 6:40PM. How long would a cab be back to the airport? (Google maps says 24 mins but I'm guessing it is muuuuch longer) Would there be any faster transportation? I realize we might only get to stay for possibly 3/4 of the game but looking for opinion on if it is worth it.

3. How insane is the Denver airport for checking in? I'm guessing around midnight things may be decently slow enough to leave 1hr15mins-1hr30mins to go through security and make our flight.

Thanks for your advice, really appreciate it!

I would think you could get to the airport from downtown in about 35 minutes. Cabs run about 55.00 and would be the most efficient way to get back. Getting downtown you can easily take the skyride bus. The area around the baseball stadium is lots of fun even if you don't take in a ball game. If it is worth it is really up to you. If you really want to see a game then go. You are still going to have a lot of daytime to kill.

Normally the airport security move fast. I've taken that same flight though its been a while. Frontier is on the A concourse so that helps too. At least I am guessing you are on Frontier?

Yes Frontier is correct! Thanks for the input. So would you think an hr and a half is good to get through the airport?

I would think so, but I'd add a cushion to the times to get to the airport and get through security. Me, I'd hate to miss that flight. There used to be a bar right by the gate. That one closed but maybe something opened in its place....anyway it was a festive crowd to be sure!

When I took that Frontier flight to San Jose last December, there wasn't much security lines to speak of - other than other people on that flight. I'm guessing that's normal for that time of day?

What are you going to do before the game? I guess you could have a nice long brunch somewhere, walk around the 16th St mall, maybe drink some beer ;-)

No carryon luggage? Are you checked through?

Late night security lines at Denver are short. Assuming you're checked in, baggage checked, etc. you should have no real problem leaving game at 9:30 pm and making your flight.

Agree drink some beer! We have really great breweries in the downtown area. I like Great Divide, River North, Prost, Denver Beer CO. Mutual Friend. Most, all, of these do not serve food but have some amazing food trucks parked outside. If the weather is nice you can get around easily by bike and the free 16th st shuttle.

for weekend brunch I like http://bistrovendome.com/index.html if the weather is nice they have a pretty patio. For something more casual http://themarketatlarimer.com/ they are on the same block.

Have fun and good for you for taking advantage of the time!!

Here is the link for the skyride bus for the morning trip to Denver http://www.rtd-denver.com/skyride.shtml

Here is the link for the taxi ride back to DIA http://www.flydenver.com/taxi

Here is some information about what is open late night at DIA …blogspot.com/2010/08/late-night-at-denver-i…

flydenver.com/fooddetails…

Also, when leaving the game, 9:30 seems about right, because you don't want to get caught in the traffic jam after the game ends. That might slow up your trip back to DIA.
