Hiking somewhat close to Denver 3rd weekend in March

My girlfriends are planning to met up in Denver the 3rd weekend in March. We have thought about hiking one of the days. Any great spots close to the Denver area? We will have a car? Also are we crazy? Is it too cold or snowy to even think of this?

Thanks!

No you are not crazy. I hike year round, all over. It could be all those things but not likely enough to stop you. If it is you can always rent snowshoes for something different.

There are lots of fun, easy trails near Boulder that would make for a fun outing. A hike then a late lunch in town. Maybe a beer at one of the craft breweries?

If you are into a longer day you might consider RMNP. It would be a full day.

There are some really cool trails around Red Rocks Amphitheater (about 20 min from downtown). It is actually a park and open space area. You could of course check out the famous Red Rocks (open to the public when there are no concerts) and then hike the Red Rocks Trail accessed at the intersection of Alameda Pkwy and Red Rocks Trail Rd.

No you are not crazy. Snow would not be an issue unless it snowed recently. This area is different and much warmer than the ski resorts. The snow melts quickly in the sun. People are not aware of how mild and sunny the winters are in Denver. Yes, it can and will snow and we get some very cold days but this past weekend was about 70 degrees and made for some great hiking weather. Just check the forecast.
