Trip to Denver - Need an Inexpensive Rental Car

We are planning a trip to Denver at the end of July. Finding an affordable rental car is more than stressful. Our hotel is in Lakewood, CO (Hampton Inn). Where would be the smartest and least expensive place to rent a car from? I know the airport is way to pricy and I do not know the area. Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

I have always found Dollar and Enterprise usually the cheapest when flying into Denver.

I appreciate the feedback but none of these mentioned are under $75 a day. I tried the Avis, Enterprise and Hertz that was mentioned by hotels that offer the shuttles from the airport. I am thinking of trying Car2go. Has anyone had an experience using that service?

Are you sure you tried the Enterprise on Quebec street? I looked at a weekly rate end of July it came up at 344.00 for the week, with taxes and fees. http://tinyurl.com/loazf2o

Car2go, I'd post on the Denver City-Data forums for information.

Or try Hotwire, Costco, or kayak.com/Cheap-Denver-Car-Rentals.12493.car…

Yes, we just got shocked with the cost of renting a car in Denver, too! I was told that it was partly because we waited too close to our trip (next week). I got the best "deal" of $535 (for 7 days, mid sized car, with taxe, with Avis ) thru Denver.org when I first looked. Then recently my husband got an offer thru his Dollar membership and we're paying $300-something for a compact thru them. I cancelled the first one.

I just checked Avis on Quebec. For July 22-July 30 the weekly rate for a standard was 357.70 and the total was 426.53. This does not include any add ons such as insurance.

Checked Enterprise on Quebec and their rate for July 22-july 30 was 317.99 for a total of 448,89. This was for a standard without any add ons such as insurance.

I used Enterprise on Quebec last summer and was very pleased. I am using Avis on Quebec this summer.

It does make a difference if you can plan ahead. I made my reservation with Avis on February 9. The rate that I got was 242.83. So I am getting a mid size from July 22-August 1 for a total of 301.80 without any add ons.

On my above post when I said standard, I meant standard size.
