How is Durango compared to Jackson Hole Wy. and is it a good vacation for children.
Having been to both towns I can say that if it is the town and it's activities then Durango wins hands down. IMO Jackson is just hectic, crazy with traffic and more of a gateway to the Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone than a destination in itself in the summer. Durango has so much going for it - a gorgeous location, pretty town, fantastic narrow guage railroad - http://www.durangotrain.com/ is the link for info on that, there is the BarD Chuckwagon - durango.org/activities/bar-d-chuckwagon.aspx - and an old time melodrama where you "hiss the villain and cheer the hero" - http://www.durangomelodrama.com/ for info. (Sorry for the long sentence - didn't know where to stop obviously.) Durango is a great family vacation town. Hope you have a great time no matter where you go.
Durango has a little more variety than Jackson. The railroad is fun and the restaurants in Durango are more upscale than Jackson.
Jackson is a fun town in itself. For kids there is a lot of entertainment...shootouts, cookouts, rafting/float trips, chuckwagon dinners, etc. Jackson is the gateway town to Grand Teton National Park. If you like great scenery and wildlife, Jackson has more to offer. I would want to combine a trip to Jackson with Yellowstone....the real haven for wildlife.
Thanks I have been to Jackson before and the kids loved it I was just wondering if Durango was similiar
