where to stop Monticello to Albuquerque

My husband and a friend and I will visit New Mexico and Colorado the first week of September (8 nights). We plan 3 nights in Albuquerque and 3 nights in Durango with 1-2 days between to see Santo Fe and Taos. We plan to see sights, museums, galleries and to do some geocaching. In order to do a cache in Utah, we may return to Albuquerque from Durango via Monticello, Utah. Any recommendations for towns to stay/sights on return trip? Flight is at 1:30pm, able to do return trip over 1.5 days if something to see. Other recommendations for trip welcome as well.

thanks!

So you are looking for someplace to visit on your way back to Abq? I'm kind of confused with your trip plan.

From Monticello to Abq with 1.5 days....I would consider Canyon de Chelly for a few hours then to Gallup NM for the night. Then an early morning drive to Abq.

Yes, looking for a recommendation on where to stop/stay on the return trip to Abq. Thanks for Canyon de Chelly suggestion.
