Ft Collins Shopping/Places to Stay

We are going to be spending three days in Ft Collins and would like to stay somewhere that is the closest to the shopping area - I think that is Old Towne (or is there better shopping somewhere else?) We have a car and are two friends just looking to spend a weekend having a great time window shopping.........

The Armstrong Hotel and Best Western were popping up for Old Towne area. I would check the reviews on here for those two.

There are also options for Old Town Fort Collins on www.vrbo.com

For a map of the Old Town area, see this link. It will help you identify where properties are located. Click on the map for a larger version and for a more detailed area map to the left.

The Armstrong and the Best Western University (as noted by hatchpal) are both shown on the map and they are the closest to Old Town Square.

I would also look at Estes Park or the Pearl Street Mall area of Boulder for a nice shopping getaway. In Estes Park, both Silver Moon Inn and Murphy's River Lodge are walking distance to downtown plus you have the option of a gorgeous scenic drive (Trail Ridge Road) in Rocky Mountain National Park. If you stay in Fort Collins, the drive up the Cache La Poudre Scenic Byway is very pretty. Visible fire damage from the High Park Fire along the byway is minimal.

Stay at The Armstrong. Great, remodeled hotel. Owners (Steve & Missy) did a great job and are very helpful and great to talk to. Make sure to hit Ace Gillett's underneath. It's our favorite place to grab drinks (bartender is superb) and hang out. They have Jazz every night I believe and tapas style food. A hidden gem in Fort Collins. http://www.acegilletts.com/

And The Armstrong is right in the heart of Old Town so you're all set for walking around. Some wonderful local shops.

Agree with The Armstrong suggestion and definitely the jazz at Ace Gillett's! Food is great too!

If you like jazz and good food, try Jay's for a meal also. They have the same type of music and are right in Old Town too.

As mentioned, the Armstrong is really the most central (and walkable) hotel if your final destination is Old Town Fort Collins. Next would be the Best Western University Inn, then the Hilton - but these two hotels would require a short drive to downtown.

Shopping downtown Fort Collins you'll find several boutiques and specialty stores. If you're hungry or thirsty, you won't have a shortage of options to choose from! If you're a margarita fan, make sure to stop by the original Rio Grande on Mountain Avenue!

Other shopping opportunities: just South of Fort Collins at the I-25/Loveland-Greeley exit is Centerra. On the East side of the road you'll find an outdoor concept mall with the regular stores: Macy's, Gap, Banana Republic, etc. On the West side of the interstate are the outlets.
