Mountain Driving

Hi,

We're from Wisconsin and are driving to Colorado next year. Our destination is Glenwood Springs. We have a Prius and wanted to know, is that an okay car for mountain driving. Also, for anyone who drives on the I-70 passes, what kind of car seems to work best for these tough hills. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Although a Prius isn't exactly designed for mountain driving, I see them all the time. It'll make it over the passes. Just stay in the right lane and take your time.

Make sure you have your Blizzaks on. The local Toyota dealer sells tons of Prii so you will be in good company.

We will be going in the summer, however, do you think it would make a difference if we had Blizzaks on even in the summer?

There is absolutely no need for snow tires in the summer.

Snow tires perform poorly in the summer in terms of both handling and wear. They are not designed for warm weather conditions.

Oops, I assumed that your concern was due to visiting in the winter.

That's okay. I was just worried as I heard people say that the Prius they drove on the mountains had something wrong with it the next day, however I'm guessing that's probably a totally different thing.
