Grand Lake or Redstone in August. Can anyone help....

We are visiting Colorado from the UK for three weeks end July/August. Several years ago we visited Mt Cr. Butte so now we want to experience the north/northwest area. Our party consists of 4 reasonably fit 50 plus year olds, who enjoy hiking, fishing, wildlife/bird watching in quiet scenic areas.(We also enjoy meals out and a few beers). We have already booked a cabin with VRBO for 10 days 5 miles from Alma nr. Breckenridge and are now looking for another 10 day base for further adventures. I've been looking around the Grand Lake area and also Redstone. Can anyone help with suggestions - we are open to any further options. Thank you

Hi,

I am also from UK and plan on visiting Begin Sept, I was originally looking at same area, but have heard it's been very badly hit by pine beetle kill, which has decimated at lot of the trees around grand lake.

I Loved the look of the La veta area SW and the town of westcliffe not far from canon city looks lovely.

A web site i have found really good is

www.sangres.com/colorado

It gives pictures of all towns a brief outline and lots of pictures and info about mountains, lakes, outdoor activities etc. good luck
