Closing Date for Ice Skating on the Lake

Does anyone know when ice skating on the lake shutdown last year? We are going to Keystone during the last week in March and hope to be able to skate.

Last year was an amazing year, so you just can't compare. However in March you should be fine, with that said who knows? If it is melted/not open then you do have other options. Copper Mountain has an ice skating rink and there is a year round indoor rink in Breckenridge on the south side of town. Both are assessable via the Summit Stage if you do not have car.

Keystone lake is "typically" open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather. I don't know when it closed this year, but a Zamboni fell through the ice last year on March 9: www.denverpost.com/recommended/ci_14644093

West Lake @ Copper is rarely still open at the end of March. The ice melts very quickly that time of year.

Yeah I thought it was the year before, it has happened 2x's that I know of.

New this year will be a smaller rink in the River Run area. I am guessing since it is a rink not a lake that it could stay open later??

If they are both open then the Lake for sure. It is the largest outdoor maintained skating lake in the USA.

Umm really, I don't remember that. Maybe it has happened 3x's?

Yikes, they really need to figure out a better way to test the ice!

I know the problem! It was technically last year, but the previous ski season of 2009/10 season, not last ski season of 2010/11 - so that is why we are thinking previous year. Last ski season was amazing! and long!

I am thinking you will be fine, even in the last week of March. Even after the Zamboni fell in the lake reopened for skating.

This may give you an idea of what we find big news in Summit County...The Zamboni going through the ice. LOL

Thanks for all of the info. We skated on the lake a few years ago in January and it was awesome. Hopefully it will be open when we are there this year.
