Family fun ideas over Christmas

We will be out there for our first time over Christmas with our extened family. We rented a condo through VRBO. We will have kids from the age of 1 1/2 to 16 with us. Any fun or low cost ideas for the family to do other then skiing? We will have a car so we can drive to other places in the area. We will also be in Denver for 1 day.

Thank you.

-Both Silverthorne and Breckenridge have Rec Centers. Silverthorne has the better kid pool complete with a big slide.

-Breck Rec Center on Tues & Fridays (double check) sets up some things for fun play for kids 4 and over. Cost is $6

-head to Buena Vista for hot springs (Cottonwood or Mt. Princeton)

or Glenwood Springs for their hot springs, hot pool (probably better with kids)

-day trip to Colorado Springs for Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods or the Cog Railroad up to the top of Pikes Peak (14,000 ft mtn)

-Ready Paint Fire (Breckenridge)- paint your own pottery

-libraries have kids reading stories once a week (Frisco is Wed., call on the

thers)

-buy some cheap circular sleds or whatever they have at Wal-Mart and go over to Carter Park in Breckenridge for kids to sled.

Have you checked the Keystone website? Not cheap, but tubing is great fun for all ages! Plus, both ice skating rinks are open!

^^ Keystone tubing good idea but note:

You must be at least 42 inches tall to tube.

Cost: $31/person for 1 hour or $33/person for 1 hour tubing and $5 snack voucher.

Reservations are highly recommended. To reserve call 970-496-3000.

Lots of great ideas! Here are a few more... tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i21445-Summit_C…

Snowshoeing might be a fun inexpensive idea too!

I will add more later, but you can rent tubes at the Nordic Center in Keystone for much less than the lift served tubing. The Nordic Center also offers an unlimited soup bar that must be one of the best deals in Keystone! A very well kept secret. They rent snow shoes too, we often go up to the trails near Montezuma. The Nordic Center can give you a map, free!

At 4:00 head to the little skating rink at River Run, they have free hot chocolate and warm chocolate chip cookies, Yummy! There is also a Parade for the kids all are on the Keystone site at

I would do the lift served tubing one day. You take the gondola up and the kids snow fort is there. It is pricey but really it is like 3 activities. It would take up most of an afternoon. You could even pack a lunch and eat at the Summit House with all the skiers. Bring your own hot chocolate packs, you can "buy" hot water for a dime.

The Georgetown Train is fun for all

The younger set might enjoy the Country Boy Mine As easy drive over to Breckenridge via Swan Mountain Road.

If you do rent snowhoes the other place we take visitors is to the original homestead. You take Keystone Ranch rd till it ends at a gate. The road is flat and easy. The homestead has a few of the original building plus newer ones for the sleigh ride dinner. Makes for a a nice destination.
