The Inn at Aspen (didn't know "resort" was part of the name...I think that's probably a stretch to call it a resort) is not in Aspen or Snowmass proper, it's at the base of Buttermilk so very convenient if you want to ski in/out at that mountain, but you'll need to use their shuttle to get into Aspen town, though it's a very short ride.
I've seen some rooms recently that look to be in good condition, and they do have a restaurant and bar on site, so if affordability is key to you I think it's probably a decent choice. It's just not in one town or the other.
