which hotel?

Planning a weekend in Vail, Oct. 19th for a Friday and Saturday night with 3 best friends----in our 40's but act like we're 30 sometimes.

Sonnenalp sounded fun, but is booked. Next recommendations in previous messages are: Lodge at Vail (piano bar sounds fun), Vail Mountain Lodge and Tivoli Lodge.

Plan to drive up Friday to Glenwood Springs pool, check in at Vail hotel early evening and see if the Red Lion Bar is still any fun? I'm wondering if they have live music in late October?

Would like to do some biking and spa on Saturday.

Recommendations on which hotel and spa anyone? Any other hotels recommended - 3 women in one room. Someone said the Cascade Spa is good----should we look for a package at that hotel if we use their spa?

Unfortunatly for you, October is "off-season" so many of the night spots may not have entertainment. The restaurants run GREAT specials this time of year however, so you will eat well!!

Cascade would be a good choice but is removed from the Village.

Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa a good choice. Tivoli has no spa but is lovely. Sitzmark has a great location, a great price but is NOT fancy> just cannot beat thier location. Christiania is wonderful too.

The Hyatt in Beaver Creek has a fabulous spa, so does The Charter...in case you'd consider Beaver Creek,

The Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch is also fantastic but NO village so its very peaceful & quiet.

If you are going to Glenwood, I would suggest renting bikes there & do the canyon bike trail (they take you to the end of the canyon & you bike back)> it is GORGEOUS and easy.

Who do you contact on the bike thing in Glenwood Springs?

Sounds interesting.

Cascade would be a great place to stay. Great rooms, wonderful spa. Don't forget to do the "swing" in Glenwood. A huge "swing" that takes you over the Glenwood Canyon...I believe at 3,000 feet above the ground. It's exhilirating! Sorry, no live music in October. Ironically, we just had Octoberfest, with great bands...but, in September. Go figure.

4. Re: which hotel?

We were in Vail in early september and stayed two nights at Vail Mountain Lodge and two nights at Ritz Bachelor Gulch. The Ritz is fabulous and we had some great hikes right out the back door, but I preferred our time in Vail.

Vail Mountain Lodge is great. The rooms are very nice and the staff is warm and friendly. The complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast at Terra Bistro is wonderful.

And YES, the Red Lion is still FUN.
