Vail downtown vs Aspen downtown - things to do?

Considering going to either Aspen or Vail with the wife and kids. The slopes arn't that big of an issue for deciding which one to go to as the kids are fairls new to skiing. As for the village, which would you recommend to take the wife and kids when they are done with the slopes? I haven't had luck finding anything regarding a village in Aspen, just a small street with a few places to eat and a few shops, where as Vail seems to be an entire european like village.

I answered on your other post, but it might be helpful to elaborate a bit. Aspen is a town, almost a small city. The downtown area is what you'd probably call the "village". It's got many blocks of shops, restaurants, bars, music venues, a movie theater, all walkable to the ski gondola. It's likely to be pricier than Vail, although Vail is certain no bargain ski resort.

Vail Village is more than the poster on your other thread suggested but Aspen is bigger. You might also take a look at Snowmass. It has a small village area and is not as upscale as Aspen.

Don't neglect the Summit County resorts; Breckenridge and Keystone. Breck definitely has the village environment you are looking for. Keystone has two small villages but much smaller than Breck. All are well served by free public transportation so even if you don't have ski in ski out accommodations, you can get around the resort easily without driving. All of them have loads of non-ski activities.

thanks for the reply. First time using this forum and didn't know they were under one sub forum - colorado. Thought both were seperate haha.

Helps a lot. Thanks. How is the downtown or village at Breck? Haven't heard of it being in California as opposed to aspen and vail. Is breck a better place to take the family who doesnt ski as heavily?

Consider Beaver Creek. The best thing about Beaver Creek is that it is very intimate, the mountain great for those learning (as well as steep & deeps)kids can't get "lost" and it specializes in KIDS! Year-round ice-rink, performing arts center, sledding hills, fresh baked cookies every afternoon, the BEST kids ski school in the country, Thursday night glo-light ski down parade with fireworks, on-mountain kid zones, bungie jumps, climbing walls... on & on. Vail is only 10 minutes away for more restaurants & shoping that your wife could handle. Also, Adventure Ridge is a kids paradise!
