Summer in Winter Park - July 4th weekend

We are a group of friends with kids of all ages travelling to WP from Houston. What's fun to do in the summer here? Especially 4th of July weekend. Thanks!

there will be fireworks, downhill mtn biking, and most likely something downtown. it really depends on how high the fire danger is as to what else you may want to do.

the weekend before is the blues from the top, and then 2 weeks later is jazz fest.

There are plenty of activities for all in and near Winter Park. This is a good link.

Kids of all ages (parents, too) love the Alpine Slide at Winter Park Resort. Teens and up like the gyro - looks like a good way to get sick to me!

The YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch has day passes for all their activities if you are not lodging there. Click on the "play" link.

The Grand Park Community Recreation Center in Fraser (next door to Winter Park) is super nice and very affordable. The indoor pool with a 20 ft. water slide and the climbing wall really impressed kids in my family.

Soar through the mountains with ziplining at Devils Thumb Ranch.

A family friendly float trip on the Colorado River would great in July. Several companies offer this trip. Red Tail Rafting provides transport from Winter Park. Generally, kids age 4 and up are permitted on the trip - can depend on weight of the child and river conditions.

For the Fourth of July, head to the nearby town of Grand Lake for fireworks over the lake! Because they are over the lake, they are rarely cancelled. Speaking of Grand Lake, boat tours, paddle boats, fishing and kayaking are all fun. Also in the town of Grand Lake, see a production at the renowned Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. They always have a family friendly production in their line up and this year it is "Shrek, the Musical" starting July 5.

Less than an hour from Winter Park, definitely take a day or more to enjoy Rocky Mountain National Park. The kids can earn their junior ranger badges. Pick up the free activity booklets at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center. Check with the rangers about programs while there. Do not miss driving and exploring all the overlooks and short trails along magnificent Trail Ridge Road. If you do not go all the way to Estes Park and back, at least go as far as the Forest Canyon Overlook. You will have good chances to see moose, elk, deer and bighorn sheep plus marmots, pikas and other little critters. You can get a $2 guide to Trail Ridge Road at the visitor center and a RMNP map at the Entrance Station. www.nps.gov/romo

There's plenty of fun things to do in the Winter Park area in the summer: mountain biking, fishing, boating, hiking, rafting, golf...

Located at the base of Winter Park Resort is an Alpine Slide, Human Maze, Leaps & Bounds Bungee, Rock 'n Roll Gyro, Mini Golf, Outdoor Climbing Wall:

If you want to try ziplining I highly recommend the one at Devil's Thumb Ranch. We took our nephew last summer and had a blast. https:/…12751
