Not really a vacation destination. What were you expecting to do or see?

Cute towns, places to visit. There was a home on HomeExchange that looked nice but we don't want to just sit on the lake. What's the best beach town in Connecticut? My dad lives in Philadelphia, he's 91 and itching for a vacation.

If your looking for a beach type vacation and don't want a long trip with dad, look at Rhode Island beach areas. Westerly or Newport RI area offer beaches, dining, historical mansions, fishing, ect. This area is another 1-2 hrs further.

Definitely look in the Westerly/Newport area. Better beaches, more to do, and you'll find typical quaint New England towns. IMO, there is absolutely nothing worthwhile in the danbury area.

Depends on what your interests are - I would agree with the others that if you want a beach / quaint town type of vacation, look in Westerly RI, or around Mystic / New London CT - You would have the beach, quaint towns, aquarium, casinos, etc...

Kent, which is about 30-40min north of Danbury is a pretty quaint town with a nice waterfall (Kent Falls) and lots of antique shops. The nearby town of Cornwall has a covered bridge and it looks like everything is still in the 1700s.

You can find quaint but not really tourist destinations. if looking for beach and quaint Rehoboth, cape may, RI areas mentioned, just about anywhere on cape cod. If ocean not required then many other options open up.

Agree, Rhode Island is a great place for beach towns and nicer waters. Mystic is worth stopping by for lunch or spending a few hours as you drive up the coast. The draw bridge neighborhood is vey charming with some nice restaurants but don't waste your time on Mystic Pizza. CT locals consider that place a real joke. Enjoy!
