Stop-over at New Haven

We are planning to drive from Baltimore to Boston, and perhaps have a stopover at New Haven.

Does NH have anything interesting for travelers? Besides Yale University?

What would be a good journey stop-over town between Baltimore and Boston, we are not thinking of NYC. What motel/hotel/holiday apartment with free parking facilities are available around here?

Any suggestions from frequent travelers will be much appreciated.

It has the best pizza in the world at Pepe's on Wooster Street. That alone is worth a stop in New Haven.

On a different plane check out the Yale Center for British Art.

If you are looking for a taste of New England and decide to drive to Boston along the shoreline on I95, Mystic would be a good place to stop... Mystic Seaport & Village, Mystic Aquarium, the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, and Groton Submarine Base; in the same area further north there s also a Dinosaur park as well as the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos that both also have Indian Museums and other things to do besides gamble, lol.

Depends on what your into, but if it's not not food and art, then I would keep it moving. This coming from somebody who's lived here most of his life.

Thanks for the great info.

We are thinking of dropping by Providence before continuing to Boston, which route would be the best?

Thinking of spending either 1 or 2 nights in N Haven and Providence, should we spend more time in N Have or Providence?

Thanks!

To go from New Haven to Providence take Interstate 95 North. It is about 100 miles. That will take you right into the city. I would spend more time in Providence

But you might find Newport more interesting. It is just south of Providence.

If your main interest in New Haven is to visit Yale you can probably do that during the day (have lunch at Modern Pizza 'where the locals go') and spend a day or two in the Mystic area; Providence is also good for a day trip, with more to see and do in Newport before reaching your final destination in Boston.

Thanks so much!

Looks like there are so many points of interests in the south of New England.

I may have to reschedule my itinerary.

Plan to spend 7d 6n in the area, if I visit the south, I may have to spend less time in Boston, is a couple of nights enough just to explore Boston city?

Thanks for being so enlightening!

Boston also has a lot to see, more historical... the State House, North Church, Paul Revere Church, Beacon Hill, Kennedy Museum, USS Constitution Ship, Museum and Tea Party Ships; the North End has the best Italian restaurants and Faneuil Hall Marketplace is great for shopping and the top of the Prudential building for 360* views of the city. Depending on when your traveling the Swan Boats at the public garden are open mid April.

10. Re: Stop-over at New Haven

had read something about Essex and Lexington, are these places worth visiting?

For Essex, looks like we have to make a detour from N Haven to Newport.

For Lexington, is it better visit it before going to Boston, as we plan to return the rental car in Boston.

If we were visiting both Newport and Providence , is it Ok to stay at Warwick and make day trip from there? Are parking easy to find / charges reasonable in both cities?

Thanks for the info.
