Looking for a hotel for 2 or 3 nights at the end of July

We are looking for a room for 2 or 3 nights before going off to a tournament. We can't rent for the whole week. Would like something under $200.00. Holiday Inn and other motels in Bethany Beach are very high. We don't want to stay in Ocean City, MD. Any other suggestions? We don't have a problem with driving to the beach. Would like to be in a more family-oriented area as far as beaches go.

You should be able to do under $200 a night no problem. If you are talking for the 2 or 3 nights you have to remember it is summer at the beach. These hotels must make their money during the short summer vacation season. Their expenses run year around with very little income during the winter months. Some of the hotels on the highway between Lewes and Rehoboth can be pretty reasonable because of the amount of competion checkout www.beach-fun.com

There are lots of places along the highway as suggested but making a mistake if you don't consider North OC. -imho.

Don't completely rule out a house or condo rental either. It's a little early still, but some rental agencies/owners are willing to do 3 nights or weekend or partial weeks in their rentals, and doing so could save you a little cash. As time goes on and weeks for rentals remain open, agencies/owners may be more willing to negotiate this type of arrangement too. You're right about the hotels in the area, but if you have a group small enough to fit into a hotel room, exploring the possibility of a rental instead could yield 3 times the space for the same price per night, or a price break, or both.

Delaware Tourism Office What's this?

Check out the Holiday Inn Express in Bethany Beach - it's within walking distance to the beach and restaurants!

I did. It's $220.00 a night with a AAA discount. More than we would want to spend.

How about the Econolodge in North Ocean City? Don't go "ew, Econolodge" because this one is VERY nice and one of the top 10 in the country.

We were hoping to stay closer to Bethany etc. We weren't fans of Ocean City when we went a long time ago. It was too touristy. Thanks though.
