I have not done this tour but found the website and looks like a lot of fun with rest stops and SAG. found the map and cue sheet and seems to be pretty easy with only 1000 ft vertical climbing over the course.

Did it last year with the kids. Very few rest stops. When we got to the pie stop they were almost out of what seemed to be cheap store bought pie. They only gave one tiny slice, I guess it is just as well. At the end you couldn't even get a small bottle of water without a ticket. For what we paid we should have gotten better treatment, I don't recall it supporting a charity

Best things about this ride: it's mostly on back roads, the terrain is flat, and there are 5 different loops to choose from so even casual cyclists/kids/families can have fun. It's a shame that Porkyjoe didn't have a good experience... I've done it several times and I know many others who faithfully ride every year and wouldn't miss it. Here's a link if you need it:

Delaware Tourism Office What's this?

The Amish Country Bike Tour is awesome! It gives you a chance to 1. exercise 2. familiarize yourself with Central Delaware/Historic Dover 3. ride your bike along side Amish carriages (awesome) 4. and be outdoors during a great time of year.

DEtraveler listed the link in the previous post - I'd give it a whirl. Kent County, Delaware, is very flat so the race is easily suitable for any type of biker.

Sorry about your experience. The pies are baked by the kind-hearted folks at Byler's Country Store. Actually, that stop is what we are famous for and 99% of our cyclists LOVE the pie! We're told they may add the famous Amish-recipe Shoo Fly Pie this year, but no promises as we aren't the bakers...

Also, there are several groups that this bike tour supports. Over the years we have given thousands and thousands of dollars to the Dover YMCA. They use the money for scholarships for children who may not otherwise be able to participate in Y programs. Last year we also gave $5,000 to the Kent County Regional Sports Complex, another opportunity for our kids to get outside and enjoy sports once it is completed. We also support the Amish Schoolhouse educational program, plus give donations to the three churches which host our food/rest stops. Speaking of which, there are four food/rest stops, one of which our 100-milers visit twice, plus Legislative Mall. When cyclists return, they are fed a FULL catered BBQ meal. When you compare it to the other large cycling event in Delaware that requires $300 in pledges PLUS registration fee, our bike tour is a bargain and a half! We require NO pledges. We give the donations from parts of the registration fee. We're not the largest cycling event in Delaware -- and one of the most popular on the East Coast -- for no reason. Last year we had cyclists who traveled from 25 states because it is a great event.

Our bike tour is -- as they say in our Amish communities -- as flat as a pancake. We're almost at zero sea level. It's a great tune-up for other fall cycling events -- come see us!
