Suggestions for a mid week trip

Hello: My husband and I are looking at a short mid week trip toward the end of the month. The "baby" of the family heads to college the weekend before and frankly I think my husband is a little afraid of what "momma" might be like that week and feels the need to distract me. He is probably correct in his thinking! The last thing I'll need is a family orientated place. I would prefer less crowded but still enough to do that I don't have time to sit and wallow. Is Rehoboth the place for us or would you suggest another area? Hotel suggestions? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Rehoboth is quite family oriented, as there is a boardwalk with rides etc.... That said, there is also good shopping (tax free) at the outlets and lots of stuff to do (including of course, the beach). For a list of hotels and other activities visit [www.beach-fun.com].

As for other suggestions, are you looking for beach, water, or something else. The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake has been getting a lot of good press lately and is definitely more upscale than any of the hotels in Rehoboth (if that's what you are looking for) [chesapeakebay.hyatt.com]. I think that you would find less kids at the Hyatt, but that beyond the resort and boating, there may be less to do overall.

Let us know if you would like other suggestions.

Rehoboth at the end of August could still have plenty of families and kids. Many of the catholic high schools in Delaware don't start school until after Labor Day. That being said if you are trying to avoid kids in your "baby's" age group Rehoboth might not be the place for you.

How far do you want to go? Does it have to be at the beach? Go see a show in New York or Philadelphia and spend a couple nights. There is always something fun and distracting to do in either city. (in my opinion) Drive down to Washington DC or Alexandria, VA. Good luck!

I want NYC. My husband wants the beach. His thinking is we go to the beach now and then head to NYC when it gets a little cooler. Makes sense I suppose. I am not opposed to seeing kids while on the trip. I guess I didn't say that part correctly. Should have said...If my kids are not there- I would prefer not to have to deal with other peoples kids either.

The end of August/week before Labor Day is generally very slow at our beaches Many schools are back in and parents spending money on back to school supplies. The wait at restaurants won't be too bad and our tax free outlets not too crowded.

You will be fine in Rehoboth. At the end of August, it is not too crowded with families because, even if their school hasn't started yet, most of them are trying to stay home, get organized for the back to school schedules. A lot of adults will descend on the beach areas due to this fact, so it will probably still be crowded but, with less young children, especially mid week.
