Sands Point Motel bad review - panic - help please!!

Hi

We have booked to stay at the Sands Point Motel in October and are horrified to read the latest review, confirmed by a PM too when we contacted the reviewer with some questions. Has anyone stayed here recently who could help please? Could it be that Travellermary was simply very unlucky or has the place deteriorated since all the previous good reviews? Should we contact the owners about this, would that be a good idea or not? I know that occasionally people can be unlucky and a bad review will appear amidst all the good ones for different accommodations. We are two seniors and really do not want to have to start looking again for suitable accommodation but obviously do not want either cockroaches, dirty bedlinen, etc, etc.

If anyone can offer more information or advice, please let us know. What should we do ... other than continue to panic, of course!?!?

That is a bad review by Travellermary. It is still rated #4 out of 115 hotels, with the vast majority rating it excellent. I have never been to this hotel, so I can't offer any first hand experiences. Hopefully some others will be able to let you know about their experiences.

Not to downplay Travellermary's experience, but, this is Summer in FL. It is the time of year that these pesky bugs will make appearences more often than other times of the year. Safe to say all buildings have them. Just need good exterminator maintenance to keep the sightings at a minimum.

With all the other great reviews, and that one bad one being at the height of Summer, I wouldn't panic too much. But, keep an eye to the reviews to see if more of the same kind of experiences start popping up. That could mean they might be skimping on the maintenance.

Thanks, Mark, will do as you say and hopefully others will put their views in too. In the meantime, can you say whether October is a month when these bugs are still around and, if so, is there anything that can be bought and put down to try and prevent them?

Usually, the warmer it is, the more you might see them. So, Oct won't be as bad as earlier in the Summer. Hopefully, you won't need to, but, a very inexpensive thing to do, if you want, would be to get an aerosol can of spray. For roaches, it is usually labeled ant & roach spray. Spray it around the baseboard, all around the perimeter of the rooms. Point is, to keep them from wanting to cross that line. Won't need to do this every day, should be effective for a few days at least. These are aerosol cans, about the size of hairspray. Can be found in any grocery, convenience store, or drugstore for just a few dollars. Do it early in the day, maybe before you plan to spend a few hours on the beach, as it can be smelly. But the smell will lessen in time.

Thanks again. Its good to know we can easily buy something to deter the roaches if necessary. We notice that another review has appeared which is the exact opposite of the previous one, 5 star rating!
